Thanksgiving was very nice last night. Sisters and brothers, Mom and Dad, friends and turkey and mashed kittens, [HEY!! STOP THAT! THINK ABOUT FLUFFY!! YOU LIKE KITTIES!!!] They were potatoes, ok? My wife and I were happy to arrive early, or at least on time, and before anyone else had arrived at my brother and sister-in-law's new home.

My nieces had just started watching "Daddy Daycare" and I sat down and watched with them while my wife was sociable in the other room. With all the noise and walking away from the movie, I didn't catch the whole thing, so when it was over I started it over again.

DVD's are great for doing that sort of thing. When all we had were VHS tapes you would have to spend 10 minutes waiting for it to rewind before you could replay it, and although you may not think 10 minutes is a long time to wait, it's more than enough time for me to get distracted enough to decide to do something else! So by the marvels of modern technology I was able to click stop, bypass the rewind button and press play before the credits began to roll. Soon my wife joined me and shortly after that, my sister and her husband.

About 1/4 into the movie we heard screams and saw bright flashes of light coming from the kitchen. The turkey decided he going out in a blaze of glory. Thankfully my brother didn't get his goose cooked, and the turkey was just fine (it was my sister-in-law's first turkey, and she did a fine job.)

Well, we didn't finish watching the Eddy Murphy movie because we were told it was time to come and eat, but I think I saw most of it from the two sessions put together.

Thanksgiving prayer was very nice with my family being much more vocal than normal. First my brother prayed and then my dad and then my mom and then my sister, and then me. It was very nice. Then my mom closed with the obligatory catholic prayer.

Dinner was delicious. Talk around the table was lively. Everyone seemed happy. We heard old stories that we have heard many times, and new stories that we might not hear again.

After dinner my brother asked my wife to play on his electronic keyboard while he played guitar. It sounded nice and I was happy to hear her playing.

My dog is currently sitting on my lap. He is quite comforable now. My wife thought he wanted outside to go potty but I knew he just wanted "up" because he said, "oewee oyeeeh wae" (which means, "pwease daddy, pwease pick me and hold me") So now he is watching the screen as I type this and he isn't making any noise so he must be happy.

My wife just left the house to run to Safeway for some pizza and batteries. The pizza is for me and the batteries are for my Thinkpad (it's been out of time lately).

Well, last night was very nice. My sister and her two daughters and son were visiting from Lakewood, and it was very good to see them all and get caught up with the latest.

One of my sisters who lives in Oregon wasn't there but she did call and that was nice. I tried to send her an email a couple days ago, but something is messed up with her Juno account. I think her mail box is too full or something. So I printed the email and stuck it into an envelope so I could send it the old fashioned way (Pony Express?) but it seems that I have gotten out of practice on that sort of thing because I forgot to raise the flag on the mailbox. I'm happy to say that I remembered to put a stamp on the envelope. Unfortunately I licked the first stamp so I had to use another one. (The first one is still on my tongue.)

Well, back to last night:
The highlight of the evening was hearing my mom sing old spanish and mexican songs acapella, seeing my sister do her old gymnastics routines, and hearing my brother play an original worship song on his guitar. We laughed, we cried, and we ate lots of pie. Special.

Well, this is my blog for God, so I give him all the thanks and praise for being blessed with such a beautiful family. He truly has enriched me beyond measure.

Have a nice evening!
EB

p.s. No batteries but the big pizza makes it all ok (besides, I LOVE my Teppygirl.) ;-)

Purpose of this record: To have a voice among the incessant chatter of an amped up, out of tune world.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day.

I am very thankful for my beautiful, loving, devoted wife.
She is so wonderful, and she makes the best chicken pot pie with rice that I have ever tasted. She listens to me and she likes to spend time with me. She's really cool! I am so glad that God introduced us to each other (via the internet!)

I am thankful for our little poodle (say 8 in spanish and you will know his name) even though he has been extremely winey lately. He likes to spend time with me, too.

I am thankful for my parents and the love they have shown me all my life. My dad is great! He is always willing to help us out in any way he can. Just a couple days ago he came over and tried to fix the lock on the sliding glass door of our home. He also found the key that locks and unlocks the front door of our home. We have been living here for almost 5 years and we were never able to unlock or lock that door from the outside, but now we can. He would have given the key to us a loing time ago if I would have asked. The reason we needed it now was that the sliding glass door lock, as I mentioned already, was broken. I drilled a hole through part of the glass door frame and jimmy-rigged an indoor-access-only lock with an allen wrench. It works great, but only from the inside, so we needed to be able to use the back door, so it was a blessing to get the key from my dad.

But my dad took apart the real lock assembly of the sliding glass door and worked really hard to repair it. Well, it still doesn't work. But that doesn't really matter. The great thing is how willing he is to help, and 99% of the time he really does make things better. He is a great dad.

Not only is he a great dad to me and my brothers and sisters, he is a great friend to many people in our community. I mean, he goes out of his way to help others out and he is very generous with his time.

I am thankful for my two brothers who help me out in different ways. Sometimes in very practical hands on ways, such as fixing the brakes on my car, and other times just lending me an patient ear or share a hearty laugh.

I am thankful for my four sisters who have always been so loving towards me. I am thankful for the way God made each of them so different and in some ways so much the same. One of my sisters gives me a big bear hug every time I see her. Another tickles my ribs until I laugh aloud. One is close to my age and always close by to encourage me. One writes me beautiful letters and she lends my life stability. They all love me so much.

I have brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws who are all very kind to me.

I have godly mother and father inlaws that are an extreme blessing to me and my wife.

I have some very good friends that are always willing to be close at hand.

I have a few aquaintences from work and school that are always ready to brighten my day with a smile or a kind word.

I have a loving savior (Jesus Christ) who gave himself, died for my sins, was raised back to life, is praying for me, and helps me every day to navigate through life. Jesus is amazing! He is so kind and patient, and forgiving. He has given me the gift of eternal life, and he promised that he will never leave me, nor will he ever forsake me. If all of the other blessings in my life were taken away, I would be very saddened. But I am sure that I would still have a deepest joy that no one could ever take away.

I am very thankful that God has opened my eyes and let me see the awful truth about my sinfulness, and the awesome wonder of his holiness and love.

To every soul and in every place, those who are sitting in front of their TV, those who are chatting with friends online, those who are with friends or family preparing for tomorrow's supper, those who have no friends or family, those who are in rebellion against their maker, those who are lost in this world - may you all find the light of Christ and truly have a Happy Thanksgiving.
